Content Guidelines

Let's have positive discourse 😊

General Guidelines

People come to UnityLocal to find and connect with amazing local businesses. Not everyone will always agree, but everyone on the site should be treated with respect and truthfulness. These general guidelines will be used to help set positive discourse on the site and hopefully set a positive standard for discourse on the web.

  • Relevance: Your content should be appropriate to the topic of discussion. For example, reviews shouldn't be about politics, employment, unusual and uncommon situations, or other topics that don’t address the goal of being courteously helpful to others.

  • Inappropriate content: There is no place for threats, profanity, vulgarity, harassment, hate speech, or other forms of bigotry. Say your opinion but in a positive and polite way. If you can’t say something in a positive and polite way, either only say you disagree or don’t say anything. Life is short, move on.

  • Conflicts of interest: Unbiased content is more helpful to others. You may vote for your own business, but don’t review your own business or your employer, your friends’ or relatives business, or your competitors unless it is honestly what you truly believe will be helpful to others and it's polite. We are ok with businesses asking customers, friends, and relatives to vote. Voters can change or remove their vote at any time before vote ends and there is no way a business can guarantee someone voted for them.

  • Privacy: Don't make public other people's full names or faces. For example, don't post photos of clearly visible faces of customers without their express permission, and don’t post other people’s full names unless they explicitly gave you permission with proof.

  • Promotional content: Unless it's UnityLocal advertising and through a Business Account, do not post marketing or promotional material. We want a useful site, not a promotional spam site.

  • Intellectual property: Be your respectful self. Don't copy content from other sites, users, or businesses. Use your own photos and videos.
